Teaching should make a student more independent, not merely more prepared for Friday.
Grades matter, but they are evidence—not the whole purpose. The deeper aim is to leave students with better questions, stronger judgment, and an understanding they can carry into the next problem.
The work begins with listening.
Students often know more than a mark suggests. They may understand the big idea but lose track of notation, remember a procedure without knowing when to use it, or stay quiet because they no longer trust their first thought.
One-to-one teaching creates room to notice those differences. Lessons adapt to the student in front of them while remaining structured, purposeful, and honest about what still needs work.
Find the real gap
We distinguish the topic being tested from the earlier idea that is actually causing difficulty.
Explain, then test
An explanation is only useful if the student can use it, question it, and express it in their own words.
Release responsibility
Guidance gradually gives way to independent decisions so progress survives beyond the lesson.
